Naveen Mahajan, Secretary, State Water Resources Planning Department, Government of Rajasthan, has bagged one gold and one silver medal in the All India Civil Services (AICS) Lawn Tennis Tournament held in Pune between February 14 and 20.
Continuing his winning streak, Mahajan, playing along Jagdish Tanwar, won gold in the open doubles 45 years plus category. The duo easily defeated the pair of IAS officer Dharmendra Sharma and Waquar Ahmad in the final by 9-5. Mahajan won gold in the same category last year.
The 1997 batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer also managed to win a silver in the all age group open doubles category.
“To excel in this tournament, you’ve got to beat much younger guys inducted through sports quota in various state/Central Services, especially Customs, Excise, Income Tax et al… In open doubles, we lost to Sood brothers from Noida who are professionals and have won 10-11 ITF titles,” said Mahajan, who represented Rajasthan in the AICS tournament.
Mahajan and his partner lost to Chandril Sood and Lakshit Sood by 3-6, 3-6 in the final.
AICS Lawn Tennis Tournament is Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board, which is the nodal agency for promotion of sports and cultural activities amongst Central government employees.
