Soon, businesses in Gujarat will be allowed to stay open 24X7. The State Government is planning to amend the Shops and Establishment Act that will also give away the requirement of annual renewal of licenses.

The move will directly benefit more than seven lakh businesses.

The Government is also in the process of making creche facility mandatory in companies which are employing 30 women or more.

Under the proposed bill, no government authority can ask shops or establishments to close at night for more than 15 days and that too only if there are concerns about law and order, traffic or other unforeseen circumstances. The government is moving reforms which will not only free businesses from old and obsolete regulations, but will boost employee welfare, by requiring creches, canteens, double wages for overtime etc,” said Vipul Mitra, Additional Chief Secretary, Labour and Employment Department, Government of Gujarat.
