Chinese tech giant Huawei technologies has appointed Sandeep Karanwal as Director, Public Policy and Government Affairs, India.
Earlier he was heading GSMA India. He has replaced Subrata Kumar Mitra who had joined Ericsson in September this year.
The company is facing tough times in India as it is fighting a Rs 7 lakh crore debt.
Karanwal will closely work with the Department of Telecom (DoT).
He had joined GSMA in 2012 and was heading more than 800 employees.
A BTech in Electronics and Telecommunications from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Karanwal brings an experience of more than two decades, and had previously served the Indian Army and executed various telecom-related initiatives for armed force.
Shenzhen-based Huawei Technologies is the largest telecom gear maker worldwide and competes with Swedish Ericsson, Finnish Nokia and Korean Samsung.
