drdo-logoThe Modi Government has appointed radar specialist Selvin Christopher as Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development (DoDRD), who will also take charge as the Director General of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) for a period of two years. Currently, he heads the Bengaluru-based Centre for Airborne Systems and the project to develop Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACS).

In addition to it, missile scientist G Satheesh Reddy, has been appointed as the Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister. He is the Director of the Hyderabad-based Research Centre Imarat (RCI), which is popularly known as the missile avionics hub of DRDO and is considered the brainchild of former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

Earlier, Avinash Chander was the DRDO chief, whose contract as Secretary, DoDRD-cum-DRDO DG and Scientific Adviser to Defence Minister was terminated abruptly w.e.f. January 31. His tenure was scheduled to end in May 2016.
