The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a Toll Information System portal to make the process of toll collection more transparent. The portal can be accessed through nhai.org.

Internet users can now get to know the charges at any toll plaza situated on any national highway across the country. Besides, the portal will also give details of facilities available at plazas, collection, date of toll fee notification, nearest police station and hospitals. Toll booths can be easily searched on the national map since The Toll Information System portal is GIS-based.

In addition, road users can also gather information about the cost incurred on the project and the cumulative revenue collected till a date, in addition to number of vehicles passing through a particular toll plaza.

An official of  NHAI  said that the system is useful for road users, NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The portal will also explain how the charges are levied. The gazette notification for charging toll fee along with local advertisements has been provided for all toll plazas, he added.

The information system gives a comprehensive list of plazas along with state, national highway numbers, name of the toll plaza, location and other info about the highway stretch. Information can also be searched by entering names of two cities/places with shortest path on map which will help ascertain fee applicable at a particular booth.
