I&B ministry opens an account with Facebook

India’s information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry has debuted on Facebook to create awareness and increase interaction with viewers. This move by the I&B is in run-up to the mandatory digitisation of cable addressability systems in four metro cities.

A statement from I&B ministry said, “The account will facilitate exchange of information and clarifications on a wider canvas of public participation, covering a whole gamut of public concerns.”

The ministry has set an ambitious deadline for complete digitization of the cable sector by December 31, 2014. In the first phase of this plan, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have to be digitalized by June 30 this year.

The ministry is also planning to launch awareness drives with states to release information on digitisation.
