In order to provide better and prompt citizen services, Haryana government’s Transport Department has decided to provide smart card based driving licences and registration certificates to citizens in the state.

“A smart-card is a pocket sized card that would have an embedded integrated circuit chip. This is an initiative to provide hassle free services to the citizens and increasing the customers’ satisfaction level,” Haryana’s Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary (Transport) Keshni Anand Arora said.

As per Central Motor Vehicles Rules, the chip of the smart card will have non-volatile rewritable memory capacity of up to 6 kilo bytes. It can store the data of applicant’s details and security definitions.

The process of issuing driving licences would be streamlined to the extent that the citizens would be provided learner driving licenses in only 30 minutes times. There would be no paper work and applicant can also track the status of their files online, Arora pointed out.
