In a bid to include technology in their endevaours and employ it efficiently, Punjab University (in Chandigarh) is all set to introduce unique software to register the attendance of both teachers and students online.

“This software will help in keeping a tab on truant teachers and irregular students. All the75 teaching and research departments of Punjab University will be provided with this software and they will be connected with a common server. This server will be maintained by the computer science department of the varsity,” a senior official of the university said.

“All students and teachers will be provided with an individual code to register their attendance and this could be done only through the department's computer system. So they have to come to the department and nobody can register their attendance on their behalf,” he added.

The official said that updates of students and teachers' attendance will be daily updated on a separate web-page on the university's website.

“Any teacher, department head or parent can check the attendance of students and faculty members from the university website. We are also planning to introduce biometric system, to register attendance, in the coming days. There would be special machines that would read the finger-prints of individual students,” he added.
