Axis Bank to Facilitate e-Tax Collection for VMC

Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) in a step to boast its e-Governance adoption, will tie up with Axis Bank to facilitate payment of municipal taxes through the internet and credit or debit cards. Axis Bank was chosen for the facility as it already provides similar facilities in Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Faridabad, Ranchi and Amravati.

The proposal states that the Reserve Bank of India has also authorised Axis Bank for collection of various government payments. Necessary software connectivity will be provided in the e-governance project of the VMC to facilitate payments through internet as well as use of credit and debit cards. And while the bank will not charge anything to the VMC for internet payments, it will charge 0.5 per cent of the collection value through plastic money. The civic body will also be roping in the bank for collection of cash and cheques towards taxes to ensure continuity in the system of tax collection.
