Jaipur (India) plans to become Wi-Fi

The Rajasthan (India) Government is planning to make Jaipur as a Wi-Fi city by providing wireless Internet access throughout the city.

The project will create a digital infrastructure for an open-air Internet access and allow people to use wireless technology to achieve their goals. A state government official claimed that through the 'Jaipur WiFi City' initiative, the government is aiming to strengthen Jaipur's economy and to propel it as a world class city by providing wireless Internet access. The government has already sought proposals from various service providers for a 'turnkey solution' for the wireless network. On the basis of proposals the state government will come out with a policy, whereby service providers can set up their wireless network across the city.
