Cardiff University is expanding its wireless network in a project, which will create the country's largest wireless local area network (WLAN).

The new network will cover 66 buildings across three square miles with over 1,300 access points, and will cater for 30,000 students, 5,000 staff and visiting guests. The university is ensuring maximum wireless coverage by expanding the existing wireless capability for the whole campus and peripheral sites. The university has drafted in education supplier RM to run the implementation and Air Defense to organise security. Trapeze's Ringmaster WLAN management platform is being use to help ensure high quality of service while requiring minimal attention from IT staff.
