The Government of Jamaica has developed a new National ICT initiative, named E-Powering Jamaica, which would be implemented by year 2012.

The e-Powering Jamaica strategy aims to encourage increased use of online business to business and business to consumer transactions, and also to build a unique ICT industry while promoting and encouraging ICT entrepreneurship. The new technology will provide its support to small and medium enterprises and non-governmental organisations in taking greater advantage of ICTs for increased efficiency and to also measure the use of ICTs for the industry and for the national economy. The government has also launched the free and Open Source Initiative, which allows software developers autonomy over technologies.
