Sam Pitroda, who introduced computerisation of railway ticketing, has now introduced mobile ticketing solution for Indian Railways.
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC), a division of Indian Railways is now planning to offer IRCTCmobile services for Indians.IRCTC is serving around 15 million passengers daily. IRCTCmobile service will allow passengers to perform various services like book tickets using credit and cash cards, view train schedules, check availability, get fares, perform inquiries and access many other associated information services through mobile phones. The railway ticketing application is part of web based platform, which includes other services like mobile banking, bill payments, P2P, advertising, NFC and coupons offered by C-SAM. C-SAM and IRCTC are planning to introduce a wide range of other new services on mobile phones, including issuance of loyalty coupons, advertising, pre-paid cards, m-commerce and travel portals.
