The three police forces, the Boston Metropolitan Police, the Dakshina Kannada District Police and the famed Los Angeles Police Department have used a common IT tool to get closer to the people, namely the web log or 'blog' as opposed to the conventional and time-tested website.
The reasons for each force using the blog may be different, what is however interesting is the general public response to it, which can be gauged by the hits that these blogs have received since they were launched. While the use of technology is natural in an IT-driven world, what makes the story of these blogs interesting is that it has sparked off a mini war in the cyber world. B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, Dakshina Kannada district stated that the blog has been a huge success story as far as he is concerned. He expressed that it is his intention to use an informal, flexible and manoeuvrable tool in the blog to communicate to the people in general and the media in particular. Appreciating the user-friendliness of the blog, Mr. Dayananda added that updating it is an easy task.
