A new web-based software “Grapenet” will allow customers to access the details of the fruits shipped to them. The Agricultural and Processed Foods Product Export Development Authority (APEDA), India has developed a web-based software, which will provide traceability about the table grapes exported by India to the European Union (EU).

The GrapeNet software provides the details of fruits like its origin and various stages, including phyto-sanitary tests in the laboratory it has passed through, through a click of mouse. While launching the website developed by the Agriculture and Processed Food Export Development Agency (APEDA), Jairam Ramesh, said the software worked on the regulations of tracing back to the origin of the produce in the reverse order from shelf to farm at the click of a mouse. Importers can access detailed information on inspection laboratory analysis, certificate of residue analysis and the packaging details on APEDA’s website. He asked APEDA to built software for mangoes also. The traceability software will help around 40,000 farmers to apply uniform practices, besides increasing their earnings by more than 40 per cent.
