India: West Bengal completes rural e-Governance project

Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia launched the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) project in the Guna district of Madhya Pradesh which aims at setting up a dynamic and interactive website for every Panchayats.
Gujarat will be the first state in India to provide high-speed connectivity through satellite-based data connections to all its 13,693 gram panchayats by July this year, enabling video, voice and data offerings in the areas of e-Governance, distance education, telemedicine, agriculture and interactive advisory and counselling services.
Union IT and Communication Minister A Raja said “As per the 11th Five Year Plan, the Centre has allocated a sum of INR 40o,000 million for implementation of e-Governance across the country.”
The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi announced e-Connectivity to all 590 village councils in Amreli district of Saurashtra region while celebrating Gujarat’s 49th foundation day.
After moving towards e-Governance, now India is expanding m-Governance across the country. Around 54 gram panchayats in five remote blocks of the state will soon have SMS alerts on disasters, funds inflow and outflow, information about health camps and pulse polio campaigns will be sent to and from between the state departments, district offices and gram panchayats, block development offices.
The Gujarat (India) Government is bringing broadband connectivity to all villages of the state, so that every household can avail the advantages of information technology.
Soon in India, the Gram Panchayat President or Sarpanch will be able to monitor panchayat centric schemes do financial accounting and reporting, keep records of gram sabha and panchayat meetings
The Madhya Pradesh State (India) Government has decided to establish 9,232 common service centers (e-kiosks) under the National e-Governance plan (NeGP) in the state.
The Orissa (India) State Government has decided to take e-Governance to the panchayat lavel. Under this programme, every gram panchayat would be computerised to keep accounts of the projects implemented under the panchayat accounting monitoring system and asset monitoring.
