The Award for Civil Society/Development Agency Initiative of the Year aims to honour civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, bi-lateral, multi-lateral developmental organisations from throughout the world that demonstrate extraordinary effort, innovation, leadership, and excellence in providing ICT services for Governance. The Award is an attempt to recognize the civil societies and development organizations whose exemplary service and success towards spreading the word of ICTs for governance, may have gone unnoticed and unappreciated on the international stage.

In Palamau Zone, the life of young people living in rural areas is always turbulent. On the one end, they are drifted by centrifugal forces working against the interests of the government. On the other hand, government is far away from them, with limited support forthcoming, which drove them to lead a hopeless and helpless life. Many young people were caught unaware in the vortex of these two forces.

On 23rd January 2009, Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat formally launched the e-Gram Vishwagram Project, offering broadband connectivity to all -13693 -Gram Panchayats of the state from the Haripura village. It has also helped 10,000 rural entrepreneurs in getting employment.

With National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in place, more than 2.69 lakh people have been recruited by the state governments for providing vital assistance for the implementation. INR 39,000 crores have already been spent during the last three years.
Reliance Communication, a Reliance ADA Group company,which is already working with the West Bengal government to provide various e-governance services is soon expected to launch similar e-Governance and m-Governance services in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar as well.
