In a significant move for national security, B Srinivasan, a seasoned IPS officer from the 1992 batch with the Bihar cadre, has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment on Tuesday, and Srinivasan will assume the role with immediate effect, serving until his superannuation on August 31, 2027.
This appointment follows the recent reassignment of Nalin Prabhat, who was the NSG Director General until the ACC cut short his tenure earlier this month. Prabhat has now taken on the role of Special Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and is poised to become the force’s chief after R R Swain’s retirement on September 30.
Nalin Prabhat, a highly decorated officer with three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak, has a notable background in counter-insurgency, particularly from his time leading the Greyhounds, an elite anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh.

As B Srinivasan steps into his new role, his extensive experience and strategic insight will be crucial in leading the NSG’s mission to counter terrorism and ensure national security. The NSG, renowned for its counter-terrorism and hostage rescue operations, will now benefit from Srinivasan’s leadership and expertise.
