Delhi Chief Secretary, DRDO Chairman get Service Extensions

Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar (IAS: 1987: AGMUT) has been granted a second extension of three months, extending his tenure from June 1, 2024, to August 31, 2024. This decision follows a Supreme Court intervention after the Delhi government initially opposed any extension. Kumar, who was set to retire on November 30, 2023, had previously received a six-month extension due to the court’s ruling.

In a separate development, the Central Government has extended the tenure of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D) and Chairman of the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), by one year. His service will now continue from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. This extension occurs amid the pending appointment of his successor.
