Stating that the need of the hour is a ‘pollution-free’ public transport, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on Thursday, flagged off 42 high-tech electric buses. Of these, 34 buses will run in Lucknow and eight in Kanpur.
While flagging off the e-buses from his official residence, CM Yogi said, “The need of the hour is public transport that is free from noise and air pollution. In this series, we have dedicated these buses to two cities, Lucknow and Kanpur.”
Lauding the work of the Department of Urban Development, the CM said, “Out of 100 cities being developed as smart cities in the country, 10 are from UP while Agra and Varanasi are in the list of top 10 cities because of their outstanding performance.”

He further said that in the last five years, the Urban Development department has been efficiently carrying out the task of providing civic amenities across the state as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Under the Smart City project, the system of ITMS (Integrated Traffic Management System) has helped the state not only in urban areas, but also in COVID management through ICCC (Integrated Covid Control Centre). Uttar Pradesh has presented the best model of COVID management by implementing it not only in 17 bodies connected with smart cities, but across 75 districts of the state,” said CM Yogi.

Highlighting the works done in the state to improve the urban facilities, the CM remarked, “Metro rail services are operational in 5 cities of Uttar Pradesh. Work on Agra metro is in progress. Besides, as many as 17 lakh people have received houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Apart from this, over 9 lakh personal toilets have been constructed under the Swachh Bharat Mission in the urban areas of the state. Also, construction of several community toilets has been completed.”
He went on to say that when people visit Lucknow or Varanasi today, they can’t help appreciating the beauty of the two cities, which bears testimony to the government’s ongoing efforts to keep the cities clean. “Constant efforts have been made towards providing basic infrastructural facilities, cleanliness, clean drinking water, and controlling vector-borne diseases in the state”, he further stated.
The chief minister said that efforts are also being made to give a boost to the tourism industry in the state. “Electric buses are doing well in Gorakhpur and people are appreciating these services. When a common man appreciates the work of our government, we must know that we are going in the right direction.”

Recalling a recent incident, the CM remarked, “A person from South India enquired about Naimisharanya. When I asked him the reason, he said that in his flight, more than 50 per cent of the passengers were travelling to Naimisharanya.”
“Our government is working towards the protection and promotion of our heritage. Some of the e-buses will be dedicated to Naimisharanya and soon we are going to start a helicopter service from Lucknow to Naimisharanya,” CM Yogi concluded.
