
Veteran Indian writer and journalist Kuldip Nayar passed away today in New Delhi. He was 95.
Born in 1923 in Sialkot, he was one of the first journalist who was put behind the bars druing Emergency.
His last rites will be performed after 1pm at Lodhi Road crematorium.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first ones who remembered the eminent journalist.

Kuldip Nayar was an intellectual giant of our times. Frank and fearless in his views, his work spanned across many decades. His strong stand against the Emergency, public service and commitment to a better India will always be remembered. Saddened by his demise. My condolences.

Saddened by the demise of senior journalist, columnist & former MP, Shri Kuldeep Nayyar. As a columnist he candidly expressed his views in his widely read column ‘Between the Lines’. His contribution to journalism will be remembered. My thoughts are with his bereaved family.

His autobiography Beyond the Lines is known for an extensive coverage of India-Pakistan relations. He had interviewed Pakistan’s nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan in which Khan had revealed that Pakistan had a nuclear device well before it was thought to have had it.
He had been a Rajya Sabha member and was also the High Commissioner of India to the U.K. and nominated member of the Rajya Sabha.

He had been a correspondent of The Times, London, for more than two decades also.
