Table 1: The IT sector in India has not provided equal opportunity to both men and women in terms of employment. Gender inequality in term of employment generation by the IT sector is the highest in software consultancy, data processing, database activities and maintenance and repair. The reasons behind such inequality are: skill-shortage among women, gender-based discrimination, ‘glass-ceiling’ in jobs, lack of mobility among women etc.

Table 2: High level of gender inequality exists in terms of IT role in creating jobs employment across various IT occupations. The extent of such inequality is the highest for systems analysts and programmers.
