
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has appointed Rajendra Singh as the new Director General (DG) of Coast Guard, the country’s coastal protection force. This is the first time a force is getting an officer from within promoted as its Chief. Traditionally, a three-star Naval officer has been heading it. The appointment was confirmed by Department of Personnel and Training through an order.
Mr. Singh, who joined the Coast Guard in 1980, is currently serving as the Additional Director General. He is to replace Vice Admiral HCS Bisht who has been promoted as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.
Mr. Singh who has served in the fields of Operations, Administration, Human Resource (HR) and Policy and Plans with an excellent track record, has also been awarded Tatrakshak Medal in 1990 and President’s tatrakshak Medal (PTM) in 2002, by the President of India.
He has also been the commander of every class of ship in his service of the Coast Guard.
