The comprehensive urban development schemes costing INR.387 crore in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi cities, in Kerala, under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has been approved.
Within this a whole lot of schemes will be covered like urban transport scheme costing INR 36.30 crore; the improvement of the sewerage system at a cost of INR 26.88 crore; the enhancement of the capacity of the garbage disposal plant at Vilappilsala at a cost of INR 16.5 crore and flood control measures at a cost of INR 48.50 crore in the East Fort and Thampanoor areas. In the case of all these schemes 80 per cent of the cost would be provided as grant by the Central government and the remaining expenditure shared equally by the State government and the City Corporation.
