Multi-purpose ID Cards for Indians

The Indian Government has proposed to issue multi-purpose Identity Cards to citizens of the country.

The Indian Government has proposed to issue multi-purpose Identity Cards to citizens of the country.

A pilot project is under implementation on an experimental basis in selected sub-districts of 12 states and one union territory. The Government has proposed to implement the scheme in the entire country after the successful implementation of pilot project. The production and distribution of identity cards will be completed by July, 2007. The government has sanctioned INR 44.36 million for the pilot project.
