The University of Mumbai has decided to make it compulsory for students seeking admission to its distance education courses to submit UID cards, and those who do not have it will be given provisional admission for three months to produce it.
This was decided upon based on a suggestion by vice-chancellor Dr Rajan Welukar during a meeting on Friday.
The meeting discussed various issues pertaining to admissions to the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL).
The member of the admission committee added that IDOL should make it compulsory for all students to get a UID card, and keep the admission provisional till the student produces it. The suggestion is expected to be finalised in another meeting scheduled on Monday.
