The Nabard-Wadi project, which has been awarded a 'social impact' award for development of IT-led public growth projects, is a prime example of IT silently making an impact in rural India.
According to officials of SKOCH, a consultancy firm, the Nabard (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development)-Wadi project, through the power of ICT (Information, Communication and Technology), has silently been changing lives in the tribal villages of Gujarat and Mahashtra, through this project. The Nabard-Wadi project has established several benchmarks in the rural e-Governance programme. It aims to deliver optimal impact while using minimum resources. Wadi villages now grow cashew and mango where the tribals grew just millets and barley without any use of fertiliser or insecticides.
