IAS Rajesh Pandey Appointed Chairman of Damodar Valley Corporation

The Centre has appointed IAS officer Rajesh Pandey as the new Chairman of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), marking a key leadership change at one of India’s oldest public sector organisations in the power and water resources sector. The appointment has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Pandey, a 1995-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, will serve as Chairman for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge, or until his superannuation, whichever is earlier.

Experienced Administrator to Lead DVC

Rajesh Pandey is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Textiles departments of the Government of West Bengal.

Over the course of his administrative career, he has held several important positions in the state government, including assignments in the Sports and Cooperation departments. His experience in policy implementation and public administration is expected to support DVC’s ongoing development and governance initiatives.

Takes Charge After Interim Arrangement

Pandey succeeds the interim leadership arrangement under which NTPC Chairman Gurdeep Singh was holding the additional charge of DVC Chairman from June 1, 2026.

His appointment provides the corporation with a full-time head as it continues to implement major infrastructure and energy projects across its operational regions.

Focus on Power and Regional Development

The Damodar Valley Corporation plays a crucial role in electricity generation through its thermal, hydropower and solar energy assets. In addition to power production, the organisation is responsible for flood control, irrigation, water resource management and supporting regional development across Jharkhand and West Bengal.

With increasing focus on strengthening energy infrastructure and operational efficiency, DVC is undertaking several projects to meet the growing demand for reliable power while supporting sustainable development.

Strengthening Institutional Leadership

Officials expect Rajesh Pandey’s extensive administrative experience to contribute to improved policy coordination, faster execution of strategic projects and stronger institutional governance within the corporation.
