State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has assigned the additional charge of Director (Production) to Vikram Saxena, who is currently serving as Director (Technology & Field Services) in the company. The arrangement has been made following approval from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

According to an official regulatory filing, Saxena will hold the additional responsibility for a period of three months starting July 1, 2026, or until a regular appointment is made to the position, whichever is earlier.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has entrusted Vikram Saxena with the additional charge of Director (Production) to ensure continuity in the leadership of one of ONGC’s most critical operational functions.

The Director (Production) portfolio plays a key role in overseeing hydrocarbon production activities across ONGC’s onshore and offshore assets, making it one of the company’s most strategically important positions.

Experienced Leader in ONGC’s Technical Operations
Currently serving as Director (Technology & Field Services), Saxena is responsible for managing ONGC’s drilling and well services operations. He oversees several technical functions that are central to the company’s exploration and production activities.
His responsibilities include leadership of:
- Institute of Drilling Technology
- Centre of Excellence in Drilling Technology
- School of Maintenance Practices, Vadodara
These institutions support technology development, training, maintenance practices and operational excellence across ONGC’s energy operations.
More Than Three Decades in the Energy Sector
A Mechanical Engineering graduate with a postgraduate qualification in Human Resource Management, Saxena brings more than 35 years of experience in the exploration and production (E&P) industry.
Throughout his career at ONGC, he has worked across both onshore and offshore operations and held several leadership roles in key business areas.
His areas of expertise include:
- Exploration and production operations
- Drilling and maintenance management
- Regulatory affairs
- Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Policy and operational planning
His extensive field and management experience is expected to support ONGC’s production goals during the interim period.

The Director (Production) position is responsible for ensuring efficient hydrocarbon output from ONGC’s oil and gas fields, which contribute significantly to India’s domestic energy production.
