The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer Anand Jain as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The appointment was made on June 22, 2026, as part of a key leadership change in the region’s police administration.

Anand Jain, a 1999-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been transferred from Jammu and Kashmir, where he was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Police.

Anand Jain Takes Charge as Ladakh Police Chief

With his appointment, Anand Jain assumes charge of the top policing position in Ladakh. He succeeds K.K. Sharma, who had been holding the additional charge of DGP following the transfer of Mukesh Singh to Manipur earlier this year.

The appointment comes at a time when Ladakh continues to witness increasing focus on security management, infrastructure development and administrative strengthening.

Experienced Officer with Extensive Policing Background

Anand Jain brings with him nearly three decades of experience in policing and internal security. During his career in the AGMUT cadre, he has served in several important operational and leadership roles.

Before his latest posting, he was heading the Armed Police wing in Jammu and Kashmir as ADGP, overseeing critical security and law enforcement functions.

His experience in managing security operations and police administration is expected to contribute significantly to strengthening policing and public safety mechanisms in Ladakh.

Leadership Transition in Ladakh Police

The position of DGP is crucial for overseeing law and order, security coordination and policing strategy in the Union Territory.

K.K. Sharma had been entrusted with the additional charge after former Ladakh DGP Mukesh Singh was appointed Director General of Police, Manipur. With the appointment of a full-time police chief, Ladakh’s law enforcement leadership structure has now been regularised.
