Anand Jain Appointed New DGP of Ladakh

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed senior IPS officer Anand Jain as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the Union Territory of Ladakh. The appointment was announced on June 22, 2026, as part of a key administrative move aimed at strengthening the leadership of the Union Territory’s police force.

Anand Jain, a 1999-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been transferred from Jammu and Kashmir, where he was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed Police.

Leadership Change in Ladakh Police

With this appointment, Anand Jain takes over as the head of the Ladakh Police. He succeeds K.K. Sharma (IPS: 2012: AGMUT), who had been holding the additional charge of DGP following the transfer of Mukesh Singh (IPS: 1996: AGMUT) to Manipur as the state’s Director General of Police.


The appointment brings a full-time police chief to Ladakh, ensuring dedicated leadership for law enforcement and security administration in the strategically important Union Territory.

Anand Jain has served in several key positions during his career in the AGMUT cadre and is known for his experience in policing, security management and operational leadership.

Before his latest appointment, he headed the Armed Police wing in Jammu and Kashmir as ADGP, overseeing critical security operations and administrative functions.

His experience in handling complex law and order situations and managing large police formations is expected to strengthen policing and security coordination in Ladakh.

As DGP, Jain will be responsible for overseeing the overall functioning of the Ladakh Police, including law and order management, crime prevention, security coordination and public safety initiatives.
