D. Thara

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of the central deputation tenure of senior IAS officer D. Thara, allowing her to continue as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

The decision ensures continuity in the ministry’s administrative leadership as several key urban development and housing initiatives continue to be implemented across the country.

Tenure Extended Till December 2026

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), D. Thara’s tenure has been extended until December 5, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The extension has been approved through the continuation of the temporary upgradation of the post she currently holds in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

The order was issued with the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, the authority responsible for appointments and tenure-related decisions involving senior government officials.

Experienced Officer Continues in Key Role

D. Thara is a 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Gujarat cadre and has held several important assignments during her administrative career.

Over the years, she has been associated with various policy and governance initiatives, particularly in areas linked to urban development, public administration and infrastructure planning.

Her continued presence in the ministry is expected to provide stability and institutional continuity for ongoing programmes and policy initiatives being pursued by the government.

Important Ministry for Urban Transformation

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs plays a central role in shaping India’s urban development agenda. It oversees several flagship programmes related to housing, urban infrastructure, smart cities, sanitation, public transport and municipal governance.

As Additional Secretary, D. Thara is involved in key administrative and policy functions that support the implementation and monitoring of these initiatives.

Officials believe that continuity at the senior leadership level helps ensure smoother execution of projects and better coordination across departments and implementing agencies.

ACC Approval Issued Through DoPT

The extension order was issued by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet under the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

Such extensions are typically granted to ensure continuity in important administrative positions, particularly when officers are handling significant policy initiatives or overseeing critical government programmes.

Continuity for Ongoing Urban Development Initiatives

The extension of D. Thara’s tenure comes at a time when the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs continues to focus on urban infrastructure expansion, housing development and improving the quality of urban services.
