Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth has been appointed as the next Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi, who is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2026.

The government approved the appointment of Lt General Dhiraj Seth as the next Army Chief on June 13, 2026.

He will formally take over the top position in the Indian Army following the retirement of General Upendra Dwivedi at the end of June. The change in command comes at a crucial time as the Army continues its focus on modernization, operational preparedness and capability enhancement.
