The Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit 2025, held on March 12–13, 2025 in Kochi, Kerala, brought together global energy leaders, policymakers, technology innovators, investors, and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of hydrogen and renewable energy. During the summit, Yam Efrati Bekerman, Managing Director, Doral Hydrogen, shared insights into the evolving green hydrogen market and the growing role of hydrogen in supporting global sustainability and net-zero ambitions.
Addressing the gathering, Bekerman highlighted the increasing importance of green hydrogen as countries and industries accelerate efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition towards cleaner energy systems. He noted that hydrogen is emerging as a critical component of future energy strategies, particularly in sectors where direct electrification remains challenging.
Green Hydrogen Driving the Next Phase of Energy Transition
Bekerman emphasised that achieving global climate goals will require a diversified clean energy mix, with hydrogen expected to play a significant role in decarbonising transportation, industry, and heavy manufacturing sectors.
He highlighted the rapid growth of green hydrogen projects across major markets including Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia-Pacific, driven by supportive government policies, investments, and increasing demand for low-carbon energy solutions.
According to him, the hydrogen value chain is expanding rapidly, encompassing renewable energy generation, hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and industrial utilisation.
Investments and Technology Innovation
Speaking on technology development, Bekerman stressed the importance of innovation in improving hydrogen production efficiency and reducing overall costs. Advancements in electrolyser technologies, storage solutions, and hydrogen infrastructure are expected to accelerate commercial adoption and improve the competitiveness of green hydrogen in global energy markets.
He also highlighted the role of strategic partnerships between industry players, research institutions, and technology developers in advancing next-generation hydrogen solutions and supporting large-scale deployment.
The discussions at the summit underscored how investments in research and development are helping strengthen the hydrogen ecosystem while enabling new business models and commercial opportunities.
Expanding Applications Across Industries
Bekerman noted that hydrogen adoption is gradually expanding beyond pilot projects into commercial-scale applications. Transportation, logistics, industrial manufacturing, and energy-intensive sectors are increasingly exploring hydrogen as a pathway towards reducing emissions and improving sustainability.
Particular attention is being given to heavy-duty transportation, industrial feedstocks, and green ammonia production, which are expected to become key drivers of future hydrogen demand.
He also highlighted the growing interest in international hydrogen trade and cross-border energy partnerships aimed at strengthening global supply chains and supporting energy security objectives.
India’s Emerging Opportunity in the Hydrogen Economy
Discussing India’s prospects, Bekerman observed that the country possesses significant potential to become an important player in the global hydrogen economy due to its expanding renewable energy capacity and growing focus on clean energy investments.
He noted that continued policy support, infrastructure development, and industry participation will be essential for accelerating hydrogen deployment and strengthening India’s position within global hydrogen value chains.
Collaboration Key to Scaling Hydrogen Adoption
The summit provided a platform for discussions on hydrogen technologies, renewable energy integration, financing mechanisms, and policy frameworks required to accelerate the clean energy transition.
Participants agreed that stronger collaboration among governments, industries, research organisations, and investors will be critical to unlocking the full potential of hydrogen and creating sustainable energy ecosystems.
The event reinforced the growing momentum around green hydrogen as a transformative energy solution and highlighted the importance of innovation, investment, and international cooperation in shaping the future of the global energy landscape.
