The Government of Punjab (India) is taking e-Governance initiative on a wider scale to reduce administrative cost and raise efficiency instead of streamlining the processes of recruitment, budgeting and planning.
Under its programme, 'Digi-Gov', employees in public sector can interact through electronic mail instead of using moving papers and files. Focusing on the 11 th Five Year Plan, the Chief Secretary of Punjab, R I Singh stated that this initiative will reduce the administrative cost, improve ability to meet citizen demand, improve operating efficiencies and staff effectiveness, thereby changing the way government works. PHD is replaying manual documentation with an electronic documentations. The other on-going e-governance initiatives in the state are Single User-friendly Window Disposal and Helpline for Applicants (SUWIDHA), Computerisation of Sales Tax Information System Project (COSTISP), Digitisation of Land Records.
