Bihar Police

In a major step to strengthen law and order, the Bihar government has appointed 32 senior IPS officers as nodal officers across districts, aiming to improve accountability, monitoring, and overall policing standards.

The move brings senior-level oversight directly to district policing, with officers of the rank of ADG, IG, and DIG assigned specific regions. While 24 officers will oversee one district each, eight officers have been given responsibility for two districts, ensuring closer supervision in key areas.

Among the key postings, Nayyar Hasnain Khan (ADG) will oversee Patna, Sanjay Kumar (IG) has been assigned Muzaffarpur, S Ravindran (ADG) will monitor Gaya, and Premlata S (IG) will oversee Bhagalpur and Naugachhia.

Under this system, nodal officers will closely track around 18 critical policing parameters, including law and order, pending cases, investigation quality, speedy trials, and the functioning of police stations. The aim is to ensure that district-level policing becomes more responsive, efficient, and transparent.

The officers will also focus on public interaction and grievance redressal. They are expected to monitor public hearings, assess police-public engagement, and ensure that complaints are addressed promptly. Regular district visits and detailed monthly reporting will be a key part of their responsibilities.

Importantly, these officers will submit their reports directly to the Director General of Police (DGP), including their observations and recommendations. This direct reporting system is expected to speed up decision-making and improve coordination across the police hierarchy.
