Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated major infrastructure projects worth more than ₹18,000 crore in Delhi on International Women’s Day, marking a significant step toward improving public transport and urban connectivity in the national capital.
The projects include the inauguration of two new Delhi Metro corridors and the foundation laying of three additional metro routes under Phase V(A). The initiative aims to enhance travel convenience, safety, and accessibility for millions of daily commuters.
Two New Metro Corridors Inaugurated
The Prime Minister inaugurated two newly built metro corridors designed to improve connectivity across several parts of Delhi:
-
Majlis Park to Maujpur–Babarpur corridor – approximately 12 km
-
Majlis Park to Dipali Chowk corridor – approximately 9 km
These new routes will significantly improve connectivity for commuters and provide first-time metro access to several Trans-Yamuna areas, including Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, and Karawal Nagar.
The expansion is expected to ease traffic congestion while offering a faster and more reliable public transport option for residents.
Foundation Laid for Three New Corridors
Along with inaugurating the new lines, PM Modi also laid the foundation for three additional metro corridors under Phase V(A). These upcoming projects are part of the continued expansion of the Delhi Metro network and aim to further strengthen connectivity across the capital.
The development is expected to improve access to public transportation and support Delhi’s growing urban mobility needs.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Trial Operations
During the event, the trial operations of the Delhi–Dehradun Expressway were also highlighted. The expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun and improve regional connectivity in North India.
Delhi Government Welcomes the Development
Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, welcomed the announcement and thanked the Prime Minister for the infrastructure boost.
She said the projects would benefit millions of residents by improving connectivity, safety, and convenience for daily commuters, particularly women. The Delhi government, she added, remains committed to development initiatives guided by the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
