The Government of India has announced a nationwide initiative to provide free Artificial Intelligence (AI) training to 5.5 lakh Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) under the Common Services Centres (CSCs) framework. The training, part of the ambitious IndiaAI Mission, seeks to upskill India’s rural workforce and equip them to drive innovation at the last mile.

The initiative is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) in collaboration with CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd., and aims to bridge the urban-rural digital divide by introducing advanced tech training in rural India. Under this program, rural entrepreneurs will receive certified training in cutting-edge domains, including
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Machine Learning (ML)
- Data Analytics
- Cybersecurity
- Cloud Computing
- Internet of Things (IoT)
These trainings are envisioned not only to improve digital literacy but also to enable hyperlocal problem-solving by empowering VLEs to develop, deploy, and support AI-driven solutions tailored for their communities.

This initiative also cements India’s status as the world’s number one country in AI skilling, a title recently recognised by global platforms tracking technology education metrics. As part of the broader IndiaAI Mission, the government plans to skill 10 lakh citizens across the country in the next two years in emerging technologies, thereby creating a strong base of future-ready professionals and micro-entrepreneurs.

The CSC network – with over 5 lakh active centres across India – is already playing a pivotal role in delivering government services, digital education, and financial inclusion to the remotest parts of the country. With AI and other advanced technologies now entering this ecosystem, CSCs are poised to become local innovation hubs, helping in tasks like
- AI-based crop prediction and agri-advisory
- Localised weather forecasting
- Smart healthcare and telemedicine services
- Document verification and e-governance support
- Rural fintech innovations
This initiative will create a rural tech-savvy workforce, enabling digital services for citizens in their native languages while promoting entrepreneurship among youth, especially women and marginalised communities.

Speaking on the launch, Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw shared, “This is not just a skilling initiative. It’s a mission to empower our rural entrepreneurs with tools to participate in India’s digital economy with dignity and autonomy. AI should not be a metro-city privilege. We are ensuring it becomes a village strength.”
The training modules will be available both online and through CSCs, and will include hands-on labs, vernacular content, and project-based learning, in collaboration with technology partners and industry experts.
Aligned with this mission, platforms like Prarambh have also opened doors for rural innovators to build AI-based solutions for Bharat.
