PM Modi Hails Amravati Airport Inauguration as Major Boost for Vidarbha’s Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (April 16, 2025) welcomed the inauguration of Amravati Airport, calling it a significant development for Maharashtra, particularly the Vidarbha region.

“Great news for Maharashtra, especially the Vidarbha region. An active airport in Amravati will boost commerce and connectivity,” the Prime Minister posted on X, responding to a post by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.

The Amravati Airport was inaugurated by Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. The airport has been developed under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) and Viability Gap Funding (VGF) framework, with Alliance Air operating the inaugural Amravati-Mumbai flight.

Calling it a historic milestone for the Vidarbha region, Ram Mohan Naidu said, “Today marks a historic milestone for Vidarbha! Honoured to inaugurate Amravati Airport alongside CM Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar. Under PM Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, this RCS-VGF funded airport takes flight with Alliance Air’s inaugural RCS Amravati-Mumbai flight. Also witnessed a demo flight at what will soon be South Asia’s largest Air India Flying Training Organisation (FTO)—a big leap for India’s overall aviation ecosystem.”

In a parallel effort to improve passenger experience, the Union Government is expanding its initiative to provide affordable food options at airports across the country. Last month, Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the UDAN Yatri Cafe at Chennai Airport. The first such cafe was launched in December 2023 at Kolkata Airport.
