Ajay Bhushan Pandey, former Chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), has assumed charge as vice president of investment solutions at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). In his new role, Ajay Bhushan Pandey will head three key departments at the multilateral development bank: the Sectors, Themes, and Finance Solutions Department; the Sustainability and Fiduciary Solutions Department; and the Portfolio Management Department, according to an official AIIB statement.

Pandey brings with him a rich legacy of reform across multiple sectors, having led transformative initiatives in finance, corporate governance, Aadhaar, digital payments, Goods and Services Tax (GST), and direct tax over the past decade.

His distinguished career includes pivotal roles such as finance secretary and revenue secretary of India, chief executive officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), and chairman of the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN). As CEO of UIDAI, he was instrumental in building Aadhaar from the ground up. Later, as finance secretary, he introduced a slew of direct tax reforms, including the rollout of faceless assessment and faceless appeal mechanisms aimed at enhancing transparency and ease of doing business.

An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Pandey also holds a master’s degree and a PhD in computer science from the University of Minnesota, United States.
