The Haryana government has approached the Centre seeking an extension for Arun Gupta, a 1992-batch IAS officer, who is serving as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and also holds the additional charge of Finance Secretary.
Gupta is scheduled to retire on September 30, 2026. The state government has proposed a one-year extension beyond his scheduled retirement.
The final decision rests with the Centre, which can determine the duration of any extension if the proposal is approved.
Serving as Principal Secretary Since 2024
Gupta was appointed Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in November 2024. He has also been handling the Finance and Planning departments as Additional Chief Secretary. A Haryana government order confirms his role as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister along with the Finance and Planning charge.
Experience in Key Administrative Roles
During his tenure in Haryana, Gupta has handled several senior administrative responsibilities. He has also headed a high-level committee examining issues related to government fund transfers involving IDFC First Bank and AU Small Finance Bank, along with aspects of the state’s banking policy.

Centre to Take Final Call
The request for an extension has now been sent to the Centre for consideration. If approved, Gupta would continue in his present responsibilities beyond September 30.
The proposal comes as Haryana continues to have senior officers serving on extended tenures, including Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, whose service was extended for six months earlier this year.
