Rajeev Kumar, currently serving as Deputy Director General in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), has been nominated as Government Nominee Director on the Board of GAIL (India) Limited.
The nomination was made by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on September 29, 2026.
Three-Year Tenure
Kumar will serve as Government Nominee Director for a period of three years.
His tenure will also be on a co-terminus basis, meaning it will remain linked to the applicable government assignment or arrangement.
Currently Serving in Petroleum Ministry
Kumar is presently working as Deputy Director General in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
His appointment to the GAIL Board brings a senior government representative from the ministry onto the board of the country’s major natural gas company.
New Responsibility at GAIL
As Government Nominee Director, Kumar will participate in the Board-level functioning of GAIL, representing the interests of the government in the company’s affairs.
His appointment comes as GAIL continues its role in India’s natural gas and energy infrastructure sector, including activities related to gas transmission and other energy businesses.

Appointment Effective With Government Nomination
The nomination issued by MoP&NG on September 29 formally places Kumar on the GAIL Board for the specified tenure. He will continue to serve in his government role while taking on the additional board responsibility as applicable.
