Puneet Kansal, a 1996-batch Sikkim cadre IAS officer, has been given additional charge as Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for a period of three months.
Kansal is currently serving as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and will take on the AAI responsibility alongside his existing assignment.
Three-Month Additional Charge
The additional responsibility has been entrusted to Kansal for three months. The arrangement has been made following a vacancy at the top of AAI.
Vipin Kumar Moves to Rural Development Ministry
The position became vacant after Vipin Kumar, a 1996-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, who was serving as Chairman of AAI, was laterally appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Rural Development.
Kumar’s move created the vacancy that has now been filled through the temporary additional charge arrangement.
Kansal Brings Civil Aviation Experience
As Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Kansal is already working within the central government’s aviation administration.
His additional role at AAI will place him in charge of the organisation responsible for managing and developing airport infrastructure and air navigation services at airports under its jurisdiction.

Temporary Arrangement at AAI
Kansal’s appointment is for a limited period of three months, providing continuity in the leadership of the Airports Authority of India while the government works on the next arrangement for the post.
