Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, a 2008-batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer, has been given additional charge of Director (Inspection & Quality Control), Export Inspection Council of India (EIC).
Ghosh is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the arrangement following a proposal from the Department of Commerce.
Additional Charge for Six Months
Ghosh will hold the additional responsibility for six months from the date he assumes charge, or until a regular appointment is made, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
The arrangement has been made to ensure continuity in the functioning of the Inspection and Quality Control division of the Export Inspection Council.
Department of Commerce Assignment Continues
Ghosh will take on the additional responsibility alongside his existing assignment as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce.
The proposal for entrusting him with the additional charge was submitted by the Department of Commerce through an Office Memorandum dated June 9, 2026.
Order Issued by Department of Commerce
The appointment order was issued on September 25, 2026, by Ajit Kumar Ranjan, Deputy Secretary to the Government of India, and communicated to the Secretary, Department of Commerce.
Role at Export Inspection Council
As Director (Inspection & Quality Control), Ghosh will oversee responsibilities associated with inspection and quality control under the Export Inspection Council, which works in the area of export quality assurance and related certification processes.
