The Centre has approved the appointment of Prashant Jeevan Patil, a Telangana-cadre IAS officer, as Deputy Director General in the Directorate General of Shipping under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The appointment has been made under the Central Staffing Scheme, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
In a separate order, the government also appointed Ishaan Sharma, an Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) officer, as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Prashant Jeevan Patil to Serve Five-Year Tenure
Prashant Jeevan Patil has been appointed at the Director level in the Directorate General of Shipping, headquartered in Mumbai. He will serve in the post for five years from the date he assumes charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The DoPT has requested the Telangana government to relieve him at the earliest so that he can take up his new assignment.
Patil is currently serving with the Telangana government and brings extensive administrative experience to his new role in the shipping sector.
Ishaan Sharma Joins Ministry of Home Affairs
In another key appointment, Ishaan Sharma, an officer of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), has been selected as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Railways, Sharma will hold the position for four years from the date of assuming charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Railway Board has been directed to relieve him immediately to facilitate his joining at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
DoPT Issues Appointment Orders
The Department of Personnel and Training has asked both the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue the necessary appointment notifications and share copies once the officers formally assume their new responsibilities.
The appointments are part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership across key ministries through the Central Staffing Scheme.
Recent Senior Appointment in MHA
Earlier this month, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, a 2001-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, as Additional Secretary in the Department of Home, Ministry of Home Affairs.
He will also continue to hold the additional charge as Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), ensuring continuity in both administrative responsibilities.
The latest appointments reflect the government’s continued focus on placing experienced officers in strategic positions across ministries to strengthen governance and improve administrative efficiency.
