In a significant administrative overhaul, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a large-scale bureaucratic reshuffle, appointing over 40 senior officers across key ministries and departments.

The move is aimed at strengthening governance, improving coordination, and ensuring effective implementation of government policies at the highest levels.

Key Secretary-Level Appointments

Among the prominent appointments, Nivedita Shukla Verma (IAS: 1991, UP cadre) has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, along with additional charge of Secretary, Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfare.

In another key development, Chanchal Kumar (IAS: 1992, Bihar cadre) has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, while Sanjay Jaju (IAS: 1992, Telangana cadre) has been posted as Secretary, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, marking a strategic swap in senior leadership roles.

Srivatsa Krishna (IAS: 1994, Karnataka cadre) has taken charge as Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, while Rohit Kansal (IAS: 1995, AGMUT cadre) has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Rural Development, following the superannuation of Shailesh Kumar Singh.

Additionally, Narendra Bhooshan (IAS: 1992, UP cadre) has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Land Resources, and Bhuvnesh Kumar (IAS: 1995, UP cadre) has been elevated as Secretary, Ministry of Tourism through in-situ upgradation.

Changes at Additional Secretary Level

The reshuffle also includes several important appointments at the Additional Secretary level.

Puneet Kansal (IAS: 1996, Sikkim cadre) has been appointed as Additional Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, while Faiz Ahmed Kidwai (IAS: 1996, Madhya Pradesh cadre) has been posted as Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel & Training, moving from his earlier role as DGCA.

Strengthening Governance Framework

Officials view this reshuffle as a step towards enhancing administrative efficiency and leadership continuity across ministries such as Information & Broadcasting, Rural Development, Tourism, and Minority Affairs.

Such large-scale changes are aimed at bringing fresh perspectives while ensuring that experienced officers lead critical departments.

Timely Joining and Execution Focus

As per government norms, officers appointed through the ACC are expected to assume charge within a stipulated time frame, ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in governance.
