Bihar Finance Minister Bijendra Yadav on Monday tabled the Budget for 2026–27 in the state Assembly, proposing a total outlay of ₹3.47 lakh crore, a significant increase from ₹3.17 lakh crore in the previous financial year.

Presenting the budget, the minister said the state government has continued to follow its guiding principle of “nyay ke saath vikas” (development with justice). As part of this approach, ₹7,724 crore has been earmarked for social welfare schemes, aimed at supporting vulnerable sections of society.

Yadav said the budget has been framed around the themes of “imaan, gyaan, vigyaan, armaan aur samman”—faith, knowledge, science, aspiration and dignity—reflecting the government’s focus on inclusive and balanced development. He also informed the House that tax revenue for 2026–27 is projected at around ₹65,800 crore, indicating steady growth in the state’s revenue base.

A key highlight of the budget speech was the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, a flagship scheme introduced ahead of the Assembly elections last year. The finance minister said ₹10,000 each was transferred to the bank accounts of 1.56 crore women under the programme to support livelihood opportunities.

He added that the government plans to extend further assistance to beneficiaries who have used the initial support to start businesses. “An additional amount of up to ₹2 lakh will be provided to women who have utilised the funds for entrepreneurial activities,” Yadav said.

The budget will now be taken up for detailed discussion in the Assembly, with sector-wise allocations and implementation plans expected to be examined over the coming days.
