Lucknow, January 12: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced that programmes worth approximately ₹2,000 crore will be implemented under the UP AI Mission, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a national leader in the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare services.
Addressing the inauguration of the two-day conference titled ‘Uttar Pradesh AI & Health Innovation Conference’ in Lucknow, the Chief Minister said that the state will roll out AI-driven projects in a phased manner over the next three years to strengthen healthcare delivery, policy planning, and service outreach. Organised by Elets Technomedia in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare and the Department of IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, this summit is a strategic regional conference under the umbrella of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
“Artificial Intelligence is emerging as a powerful tool to transform governance from a reactive approach to a proactive one. Under the UP AI Mission, Uttar Pradesh will take the lead in adopting AI for healthcare services,” the Chief Minister said.
He noted that AI will play a key role in improving the accuracy and effectiveness of health policies by enabling real-time data collection and monitoring of epidemics and vector-borne diseases, leading to better decision-making and outcomes.
Highlighting the state’s ongoing efforts, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh is already developing key healthcare and technology infrastructure, including a Medical Device Park, a Pharma Park, a MedTech Centre of Excellence in Lucknow, an AI and innovation-based entrepreneurship centre in Gautam Buddha Nagar, a Centre of Excellence at IIT Kanpur, and the development of Lucknow as an AI City.
He added that over the past eight years, technology-led governance in Uttar Pradesh has ensured effective last-mile delivery of welfare schemes, reduced leakages, and improved transparency. Initiatives such as e-POS machines at fair price shops, elimination of fake ration cards, and Direct Benefit Transfer have streamlined service delivery.
On healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the number of medical colleges in the state has increased from 40 before 2017 to 81, while ICU facilities, oxygen plants, dialysis units, blood banks, digital diagnostics, virtual ICUs, and telemedicine services are now available across districts.
Referring to disease control, he said encephalitis, which earlier claimed over a thousand children’s lives annually, has now recorded zero deaths, while AI-based tools are being deployed to strengthen tuberculosis detection, treatment monitoring, and risk mapping.
