Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched the ‘One District, One Cuisine’ initiative in Uttar Pradesh, a new programme aimed at giving every district a distinct culinary identity by promoting its traditional food and beverage specialities. The initiative is designed on the lines of the state’s flagship ‘One District, One Product’ programme, which has played a key role in promoting local industries.
The ODOC scheme was unveiled at Rashtriya Prerna Sthal in Lucknow on the occasion of Uttar Pradesh Day. The programme seeks to document, brand, and promote region specific cuisines across the state, creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, food artisans, and tourism linked businesses while preserving Uttar Pradesh’s rich culinary heritage.
State government officials said the ODOP initiative has already helped several indigenous products from Uttar Pradesh gain national and international recognition. Building on this success, the ODOC programme is expected to boost local economies, encourage food based startups, strengthen cultural tourism, and create employment across districts by turning traditional cuisine into a growth driver.
