IG Drones, a leading defence drone systems company, is set to establish an advanced manufacturing and research facility in Uttar Pradesh’s defence corridor, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government on 9 October.
The facility aims to strengthen India’s domestic production of drones for defence and security applications. The Uttar Pradesh government will support the initiative by facilitating approvals and providing access to state and central government incentives. IG Drones plans large-scale production of its armoured first-person-view (FPV) Striker Drones, targeting 1,00,000 units annually. These drones have been designed and tested entirely in India.
Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, founder and CEO of IG Drones, described the MoU as a pledge to enhance India’s self-reliance in defence technology. “This MoU is not just an agreement, it is a commitment to India’s self-reliance in defence technology. Our new facility will serve as a hub of innovation, manufacturing, and employment, ensuring that next-generation indigenous drones are available for our armed forces and allies,” Sanghapriya said. He also cited the company’s role in Operation Sindoor, acknowledged in an official government release, as evidence of the technology’s operational readiness.

Major General R C Padhi, senior vice president for research and development at IG Drones, highlighted the rising global demand for indigenous drones and said the facility would help scale production to meet national security requirements while exploring international opportunities. “The demand for indigenous FPV drones is surging globally, and India must seize this moment. Our upcoming facility will play a pivotal role in ensuring that production is scaled up to meet national security requirements while also exploring international opportunities,” he said, describing the drone as a “tactical force multiplier” for military forces.
The development aligns with the government’s emphasis on promoting indigenous defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The global drone market is projected to exceed USD 55 billion by 2030, with military applications driving a significant portion of this growth. The establishment of the facility is expected to position Uttar Pradesh as a major hub for aerospace and defence manufacturing in India.
