Key Bureaucratic Appointments and Extensions Announced by Centre, Check List

The Government of India released a fresh set of high-level bureaucratic appointments and service extensions on Tuesday.


Sudhakar Dalela (IFS:1993) has been appointed as Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs, succeeding Dammu Ravi (IFS:1989), who retires on 31 August 2025.  Sibi George (IFS:1993) has been named Secretary (West) in the same ministry, replacing Tanmaya Lal (IFS:1991) upon his superannuation on the same date.

Sanjay Singhal (IPS:1993:UP) has been appointed as Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), with a tenure extending up to his retirement on 31 December 2028. In a related development, 35 IPS officers have been empanelled for DG or equivalent posts at the Centre.

Saurabh Garg (Retd IAS:1991:OR), currently Secretary, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, has been granted a one-year contractual extension until 31 July 2026.


The tenure of Govind Jaiswal (IAS:2007:AGMUT), Joint Secretary, Department of Higher Education, has been extended for two years beyond 11 October 2025.

P Shankar (Retd Sr PPS, CSSS cadre) has been appointed as Private Secretary to NITI Aayog Member Dr V K Paul, at the Under Secretary level, on contract from 1 June 2025


Rahul Rastogi (ITS:1998), Joint Secretary (Director level), Central Information Commission, has received a one-year extension in his central deputation, now valid up to 29 August 2026. His deputation began on 30 August 2019.

Additionally, Dr Shalia Shah (IFS:2012), Deputy Secretary, Department of Higher Education, has been repatriated to her parent cadre with the provision of extended cooling-off.
